I was talking to my mentor not too long ago about navigating the niche I have attempted to carve out here in social media land and in my life.
I am a scientist. A physician. An educator.
But I am also a mother. An autoimmune patient. Granola without the nuts.
Above all, I aim for balance.
@beautycounter.hill.nerd’s Instagram post yesterday really hit me. These two worlds are not 𝘮𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦 though I do I feel as though I am trying to thread a needle with a small eye many days.
I am not particularly religious, but I am a firm believer in the wonder and elegance of our natural world. As a physician and better yet, an immunologist, I think it is hard not to be in absolute wonder our bodies always striving for balance- 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘴.
When we mess with Mother Nature, our bodies can adapt but only to a certain extent and only so quickly. Too much too soon and chaos ensues. At the end of the day, rates of inflammatory diseases- allergies, asthma, autoimmunity, heart disease, cancer, diabetes continue to increase at alarmingly high rates. Changes in our diets, our lifestyles, our toxic exposures, modern health care. 𝘞𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘮𝘰𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘯 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘴.
So where does that leave us? How can we strike a balance?
I feel immensely privileged that I am able to utilize my education, experiences and voice to educate and advocate. Stay tuned as I continue to share changes our family has made as we aim for more balance in our day to day lives.
